out of earth’s sorrows, and into Thy balm ..
out of life’s storms, and into Thy calm ..
out of distress into jubilant psalm ..
Jesus, I come to Thee.

out of myself to dwell in Thy love ..
out of despair into raptures above ..
upward for aye on wings like a dove ..
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Sounio

We hopped over to Greece for a bit during the same trip to Italy ... and wound up watching a beautiful sunset in Sounio, at the Temple of Poseidon. These are taken with the same camera, however I tried something different with the editing. Let's see how they came out ...

the Tyrrhenian Sea

My dad let me borrow his camera in Italy and take a few pictures. Oh, how I'd love to be a photographer for Travel + Leisure, but some things will stay dreams for now! This was a Pentax AK10, and apparently those are "outdated and awful" .. boo. I had fun editing these, though, and I think they came out kinda fun, regardless. Wish me luck as I spend the rest of my youth saving up for a sweet DSLR :)

the children's library

How fun are these illustrations? While I was in France, I picked up a copy of Kipling's Histoires Comme Ça (Just-So Stories) and immediately fell in love with the pictures inside. Entire pages are dedicated to these wood/stamp/etch-like pictures ... all showing animals and African scenes in bright colors. Just love it. The artist, May Angeli, wrote and illustrated a few more books, so here are their covers. Her style is so fun! Just thought I'd share :) I believe she's from Tunisia, so all of her stories are in French ... all the more reason why I can't wait until I have wee ones to read them to. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has equally fun illustrations in his book, Le Petit Prince, which we just finished reading in my French literature class. Children's literature is so exciting ... makes me want to be a kid again! Oh the days ... enjoy :)

two thousand and ten

With the start of the new year comes a new list of 'things' - ideas, desires, goals, habits to let go of, hobbies to pick up .. all sorts of 'things'. I often realize, during that late-December reflection period of looking back at the previous year, that I rarely follow through with everything I set out to accomplish. Well! This year .. I've made a 2010 To-Do List. I figured this would make a good first blog entry .. seeing as 'blog' is on the list :) Completed tasks are in bold, tasks in the works are orange, failed attempts are grey, and everything else has yet to be started. Inspiration for these came from lots of sources, and are sort of a compilation of personal desires as well as ideas from others. It will continue to grow, and continue to be checked off. Hopefully :)
